Peace is the ultimate wish of human beings and the basis for human interaction. Sustainable peace is needed not only for people’s happiness but also to think, plan and implement discoveries and developments. When people envision a prosperous society and seek ways of building peace, dialogue emerges as an effective method.

In the present context of diminishing resources, rising inequalities and shifting demographics, dialogue remains central: Without this dialogue taking place every day among all nations—within and between civilizations, cultures and groups, among individuals —no peace can be lasting and no prosperity can be secure. Taking this into account, the United Nations has declared the year 2023 as the year of “Dialogue as a guarantee for peace “.

It aims at uniting the efforts of every individual in strengthening the tradition of peaceful and trusting existence of the peoples of the world, restoring values, ideological views and tradition of preserving and promoting peace and trust in international and national relations. Thus, the year beckons for a clear need to make authentic dialogue among cultures to bring across the message that the richness of the diversity is something to be celebrated and deepened, not feared.

Dear St.Marians, We live in an era of unprecedented challenges, from climate change to economic inequality, from political opposition to cultural clashes. The world today needs the young who will create plethora of opportunities through dialogue to prioritize peace in this world. The Education you receive today includes learning about different cultures, religions, communities, economic and social standards and grooms you to become a socially responsible individual. It helps you become the hand that lifts up the lowly who provides solutions to all the problems they face and makes you a better person people around can rely on raising your self-confidence and credibility as an individual.

So dear Students, foster an open and honest discussion at different levels and become the champions of dialogue by actively listening to one another, seeking to understand different perspectives and engaging in conversations that promote empathy and understanding. Let us all embrace the power of dialogue, break down barriers, build bridges, and work together to build a world where reconciliation, justice, love and lasting peace prevail.

Let us Be Champions of Dialogue and Agents of Peace

‘Science, to Build a Humane Society’

Science and scientific applications have a profound influence on society. The arena of science is evolving everyday with such an unstoppable pace, that its presence can be seen in every aspect of our daily life. The importance of scientific and technological development has been felt more now, in these days of the pandemic. It is only because of technology, that we have been able to successfully overcome the challenges of these days and conduct our daily affairs, produce vaccines, work, study and even socialise. However, we are also aware that scientific and technological progress has also led to the invention of sophisticated arms and instruments that have the potential to destroy life on the entire planet. Against this backdrop, the United Nations (UN) has declared the year 2022, as the ‘International year of Basic sciences for Sustainable Development’, the focus being on, how to improve the quality of life across the world.

Dear St. Marians, the main aim of education is, not only to convey the concepts, principles and facts but also to foster in us the spirit of enquiry, critical thinking, creativity and communication, leading us to the constructive use of knowledge, abilities and experiences for the creation of a society based on humane values. Born in an era of scientific and technological revolution, as we run the rat race to possess wealth and power, success and achievements, what we often forget in life is to possess the ability to choose that which is right and just. Our lives are determined by the choices we make from moment to moment. When choices are made on the basis of a broad, lasting and inclusive vision that embraces all, they create a positive influence on society. Education that creates intellectual giants who focusses only on self-interests and is unable to distinguish between the right and the wrong will only ruin a civilization.

It is therefore with the vision of moulding spiritually vibrant, intellectually alert, emotionally mature, and socially committed persons, SMCIC has been marching forward for the past 57 years. During this year dedicated to Basic Sciences, let the theme of our academic journey be ‘Science, To Build A Humane Society’. Let us strive to make the wonders of science be focused on improving life, not eliminating it. All the best!!!

Together, we can bring peace

PEACE..... PEACE is the need of the hour in today’s world. Peace between nations, communities and races. Peace between religions; peace in the family; peace between individuals; and peace in the hearts of every human being. The year 2020 has been a year of trials, tragedies and tears. COVID-19 overturned our lives and plunged our nation and the entire world into suffering and grief. In the midst of all these unprecedented events that filled our hearts with anxiety and hopelessness can we still speak of PEACE?

Peace happens when our hearts are not at war; Peace happens when understanding breaks boundaries and peace happens when we begin to accept, appreciate and promote diversity and make a conscious effort to build bridges considering that we are children of one Heavenly Father- God himself. Towards this aim of building one peaceful and harmonious Human Family-‘Vasudhiva Kutumbakam’ where everyone’s rights are respected, differences- be it ideological, religious, cultural or linguistic are honoured and appreciated, dignity is defended and the ever eternal democratic values of JUSTICE, LIBERTY, EQUALITY AND FRATERNITY are upheld, SMCIC has been moving forward for the past 56 years upholding its motto “Effort Spells Success”.

This year, dedicated as International Year of Peace and Trust, beckons us to enter into an era of universal brotherhood, fraternal love and unity, so that together as one Human family we can face the challenges of the present and that of the future. Dear St. Marians, faced with huge challenges, when the whole world is struggling hard to bounce back to a state of peace and prosperity, what can we as St. Marians do to heal the world is a pertinent question that needs to disturb our conscience. For, the role of education is not only the acquisition of information rather transformation of an individual into an enlightened human being with fraternal spirit, who inspired by his social responsibility, and the values of competence, compassion and commitment will endeavour to build a peaceful family, society, country and world. Let us then, dare to dream of creating a different world, a world of peace and harmony through our humble acts of love and kindness towards one another specially the less privileged and commit ourselves more courageously to conquer the forces of hatred and enmity and resolve to bring in reconciliation and justice. “Together, let’s make peace among ourselves and with nature, tackle the climate crisis, stop the spread of COVID-19, and make 2021 a year of healing.” Giving heed to this invitation of the UN General Secretary, António Guterres, let us enter into the new academic year 2021-2022, with great hopes in our hearts, enthusiasm in our veins and commitment in our whole being.

Together, we can bring peace- peace among ourselves and with nature- our common home.

A call to Make our Common Home Safe

Ravindranath Tagore once said, “The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence”. Education is not only acquiring of information to achieve a successful career, but also creation of responsible individuals with social consciousness and social mindedness. It ensures the formation of enlightened and awakened citizens who will make every effort to build a prosperous, happy and healthy nation. Thus education is the transformation of the persons into the ‘image of God’ as designed by God from the beginning

It is with the vision that every child should become a self motivated agent of social change, who will become builders of a civilization of love, peace and justice, that SMCIC, is marching forward for the past 55 years with its motto held high “ Effort Spells Success.” It’s our firm belief that, in this Temple of learning, we are able to create vibrant global leaders, competent, compassionate conscientious, and responsible decision makers who will become torchbearers of peace and harmony in this ever-changing world.

Today, the world is suffering from immense crisis on all sides like crimes, conflict, hunger, unemployment, illiteracy, swelling number of migrants and refugees, terrorism, drug trafficking, etc. In our own country we face economic downfall, alienation and elimination, hatred and violence. All these altogether make a grave danger to peace. The youth are bombarded with too much of the seductive and destructive aspects of the world and are carried away mindlessly. The inability to choose between ‘the Good’ and the ‘Less Good’ often leave the young hearts confused. Climate change due to the selfishness of mankind and the irresponsible use of natural resources is another issue that is alarming the world very specially our nation today. The world is becoming more and more dangerous to live in peaceful co-existence.

In the midst of these present social scenario what is the role of St. Marians? This is a pertinent question that needs to echo in the hearts of each of us. Dear St. Marians, faced with such huge challenges, can we still dream of creating a better world, a world of peace and harmony? For this we need to grow in the art of discernment and listening to one’s conscience, develop the ability to reason reflectively, logically and critically, think freely, fearlessly and creatively and prepare ourselves to face the future with courage, determination and hope. Therefore with great hopes stored in our hearts, as a team of committed management, dedicated teachers, enthusiastic students and co-operative parents, let us step into the new academic year 2020-21 with its thrust of the year- ‘A all to Make our Common Home Safe’. May Mother Mary our Patroness and Venerable Mother Mary Ward our Foundress shower their blessings upon us!!
